All around us we find recommendations to utilize mediation.  Often it’s considered an alternative to litigation in the judicial system, sometimes it is to change contentiousness to constructive debate, sometimes it just means learning how to communicate to improve relations.  One hears the recommendation to utilize mediation constantly.  But what do we want to achieve?

Visions are examples, which describe the ideal picture especially when the law is involved.  Courts, associations and institutions try to use mediation to establish something.  One should ask, “Do we have a common and committed goal”?  How will mediation help achieve the final result?  What is the profile of the mediator in the future?  Is it enough just to be certified?

This conference will be the platform where EVERYONE has their speaker’s corner.  We will examine facts, exchange experiences and introduce new and unknown methods to use in mediation.

New and experimental is the concept of this conference.  The idea is to provide knowledge as well as to exchange experience in a collegial atmosphere.

Issues

The issues concern mediation,  mediators and clients.  The subjects to be discussed are perspectives of mediation and the profiles of mediators.  At least four different themes will be in focus:

  • Mediation and Justice.
Discussions concerning court annexed mediation.  Should the justice system be competitive with mediation or a proponent of mediation or both?  What is your answer?
  • Mediation and Experience.
Mediation has many different faces. Compare and contrast our experiences to discover a common vision.
  • Mediation and Healthcare.
Is mediation effective in resolving institutional problems?  Staff problems?  Staff and patient problems?  Legislation and drug distribution problems?
  • Mediation and Emotions.
Is mediation an effective means of expressing the emotional factors involved in conflict?  Should mediation be therapeutic or a substitute for therapy?

Operator

Operators are: On the one hand “Integrierte Mediation e.V.” (Integrated mediation). Integrierte Mediation is a registered welfare and professional association caring about mediation in all the means. For integrated mediation it is the 7th international conference about mediation.

The operator on the other hand is the higher regional court of Berlin. This is because of the court’s interest in alternate dispute resolution.

There you will find details and actual facts about the conference

Integrated mediation is known for being innovative. Thus we are going to try a new concept of making conferences. It is called the world coffee. The idea is to improve knowledge transfers, the exchange of experiences and to combine with entertainment elements that make everything exciting. You will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of a coffee shop where you listen to speakers, find places to chat with friends, discuss with experts, take part in video presentations, be a part of role plays and where you may be astonished about a view on mediation that makes life easier and better indeed. Everything happens in the backdrop of a historical, beautiful court building in the very center of Berlin.

Meeting each other is the main approach of the conference where the knowledge is high and the experts are experienced so much. Don‘t miss the chance to speak with mavericks and to discuss with professionals in order to learn that mediation is much more than just a procedure sold as an alternate to litigation. Enjoy living examples and presentations as well as exhibitions and experiments of new techniques to be used in mediation processes.

We are very pleased to greet our members from far away abroad. The language of the conference will be German. We take care for English translations. To really let you feel the relaxed coffee shop atmosphere, there will be catering available permanently and all you need to enjoy the conference as an example for what mediation means.

Application

An informal application is necessary for organizational reasons. Please send us an e-mail informally where you mention your name and the number of participants who will join the conference with you. Don’t forget to mention whether you are a member of Integrated mediation or EMNI. No problem to apply orally. Then please call +492681 986257. If you prefer sending a letter, please use the PDF application form and send or fax it to us. The fax number is: +492681 986275.
